Over 1,000 Police Officers Removed From Service Over Drug Links, Bribery & Negligence

COLOMBO (News 1st): Minister of Public Security Ananda Wijepala says more than 1,000 police officers have been removed from service over various offences. 

The Minister said that some of them were dismissed for offences including involvement in drug trafficking and maintaining links with organised criminal gangs.

Certain officers were removed from service for offences including neglect of duty and bribery.

Minister Ananda Wijepala added that swift investigations are being carried out into complaints made against police officers.
