COLOMBO (News 1st):13,338 Dengue patients have been reported in the country within the first 21 days of June.
This is a sharp increase compared to previous years.
The number of dengue-related deaths reported so far this year is 28.
112 Medical Officer of Health (MOH) divisions have been identified as high-risk areas for dengue.
The Maharagama MOH division continues to record the highest spread of the virus.
Dengue is also spreading rapidly in the Matara, Galle, and Ratnapura districts, as well as the Panadura MOH division in the Kalutara district and the Biyagama MOH division in the Gampaha district.
Furthermore, in addition to the Colombo and Gampaha districts, hospitals in the Matara district have now reached their maximum capacity for treating dengue patients.
The total number of dengue patients reported in the country so far this year is 47,179.
The National Dengue Control Unit stated that this is a clear increase compared to the years 2024 and 2025.
Over the past few days, 263 schools containing mosquito larvae have been identified, bringing the total number of schools inspected so far this year to 633.
The Dengue Control Week concluded the day before yesterday, and a special discussion regarding future dengue control programs is scheduled to be held today under the patronage of the Secretary to the President, Dr. Nandita Sanath Kumanayake.
Representatives from all sectors of the health field are expected to participate in this discussion.
Meanwhile, the "Api Dinamu Dengue Paradamu" (Let’s Win, Let’s Defeat Dengue) campaign, organized by Sirasa FM, is continuing for the third consecutive day today, covering 10 days, 10 cities, and 1,000 houses.
The campaign is centered around the Kaduwela city today, and tomorrow’s program will be held centered around Mulleriyawa.
