COLOMBO (News 1st); A new law aimed at preventing organized crime while safeguarding public rights will be introduced in place of the Prevention of Terrorism Act.
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake made this statement during a discussion held to explore swift solutions to challenges faced by the apparel sector.
The discussion, held this afternoon at the Presidential Secretariat, was attended by leading business figures and investors from Sri Lanka’s apparel industry.
The President emphasized that the government will extend maximum support to strengthen the country’s export economy.
He also outlined future policy plans aimed at achieving this objective.
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake further invited investors to expand industrial operations into rural areas, noting that such a move would help strengthen the export economy.
Discussions also focused on a “Plug and Play” mechanism, under which the government will facilitate necessary infrastructure and factory buildings to support investors.
Attention was also drawn to issues faced by local raw material suppliers due to the VAT tax system, and businesses were requested to submit proposals on possible relief measures.
The President also highlighted the need to strengthen legal and technological mechanisms to prevent the outflow of illegally earned funds from the country, and stated that a new law to combat organized crime, while ensuring the protection of public rights, will be introduced to replace the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA).
