Sick leave campaign launched by Grama Niladhari officers ongoing

COLOMBO (News1st); The sick leave campaign launched by Grama Niladhari officers continues on Wednesday (15). 

The trade union action was launched based on several demands including salary anomalies.

Secretary of the All Island Grama Niladhari Association Jagath Chandralal said the Cabinet approved a specified salary method for Grama Niladhari officers, adding however the government is delaying its implementation.

He added that Grama Niladhari officers only receive a monthly allowance of around Rs.600 to carry out duties in the village, and the State Minister appointed an allowance committee to look into the matter.

Chandralal said, however, that despite six months having passed since the committee submitted recommendations to the subject Minister, the government is yet to implement the recommendations.
