COLOMBO (News 1st); Three people have died and 19 others have been injured in a series of road accidents reported from several parts of the country, Police said.
According to Police, two people were killed when a motorcycle collided with a tipper truck near the 97th kilometre post on the Trincomalee-Batticaloa Road.
The victims were identified as two residents of Muthur, aged 19 and 22.
Meanwhile, a 39-year-old resident of Polonnaruwa was killed in a separate accident in the Thalavattuwan area along the Batticaloa-Kalmunai Road.
Police said the accident occurred after a cab veered off the road and crashed into an iron pole supporting the signboard of a lottery sales booth and a nearby shop.
A person who was inside the lottery sales booth at the time of the crash sustained injuries and was admitted to the Kalmunai Hospital for treatment.
In another incident, 18 people were injured in a bus accident that occurred in the Karadupana area of Kegalle during the early hours of today.
Police said the accident involved a collision between a private bus and a Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) bus.
Investigations into all three accidents are underway.
