National Human-Elephant Conflict Action Plan Due Within Three Months

COLOMBO (News 1st): The Minister of Environment, Dr. Dhammika Patabendi, states that the national action plan to minimize the human-elephant conflict is scheduled to be handed over to the President within three months.

The Minister noted that the plan will be formulated by the Action Committee for Managing the Human-Elephant Conflict.

Anuradhapura, Kurunegala, and Puttalam are the districts where the human-elephant conflict is most prevalent.

Due to the human-elephant conflict, 141 wild elephants died in the year 2025, while 169 wild elephants have died during the elapsed period of this year.

Furthermore, 51 individuals lost their lives last year due to the human-elephant conflict, while the number of individuals who have died during the elapsed period of this year stands at 57.
