India Gifts 134 Police Cabs to Sri Lanka

COLOMBO (News 1st); A consignment of 134 single cab vehicles donated by the Government of India for use by the Sri Lanka Police was officially handed over to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake today (25) at the Presidential Secretariat.

The donation, made under the Indo–Sri Lanka Friendship Programme, represents an investment of approximately Rs. 300 million by the Indian government.

The vehicles are scheduled to be distributed among police stations in the Northern Province, strengthening operational capacity and mobility within the region.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Indian High Commissioner Santosh Jha reaffirmed India’s commitment to supporting Sri Lanka, noting that similar forms of assistance would continue in the future as part of ongoing bilateral cooperation.

In recognition of the contribution, Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasooriya presented a commemorative memento to the Indian High Commissioner, expressing appreciation for the continued support extended by India to Sri Lanka’s law enforcement sector.
