Wimal Weerawansa Arrested Over Police Obstruction Allegations

COLOMBO (News 1st): Former Parliamentarian and National Freedom Front (NFF) leader Wimal Weerawansa was arrested by the Thalangama Police after appearing before officers to provide a statement over an alleged incident involving obstruction of police duties.

Police had summoned Weerawansa in connection with an incident reported on May 18 near the Parliamentary grounds, where he is accused of interfering with the duties of police officers and engaging in what has been described as criminal force.

Weerawansa arrived at the Thalangama Police Station earlier today (25), where his statement was recorded by authorities as part of the ongoing investigation into the incident.

Following the recording of his statement, police proceeded to place him under arrest.
