COLOMBO (News 1st); President Anura Kumara Dissanayake held a discussion at the Presidential Secretariat with officials of the Urban Development Authority (UDA) to review ongoing and planned development projects.
During the meeting, the President emphasised the importance of utilising the financial allocations made to the UDA for this year within the current financial year itself.
He also highlighted the need to reach final decisions in consultation with relevant institutions regarding projects that are to be jointly implemented by multiple agencies. In this context, the importance of clearly assigning responsibilities to each institution for both implementation and maintenance of such projects was discussed.
Attention was drawn to several key water management initiatives in Colombo, including the Kelani River flood control project and the Beira Lake restoration project.
The discussion further addressed the need to implement a special programme for low-income housing in areas such as Ratmalana and Moratuwa in and around Colombo.
Additionally, the meeting focused on the necessity of introducing a dedicated management framework to ensure the effective implementation of these development projects.
