COLOMBO (News 1st); Twenty-two Indian fishermen have been arrested along with four multi-day fishing vessels for illegally operating within Sri Lanka’s territorial waters, the Sri Lanka Navy announced.
The arrests were made during naval search operations conducted in the northern seas.
According to the Navy, a search operation carried out near Delft Island last night led to the interception of two multi-day fishing vessels and the arrest of 12 Indian fishermen on board.
A separate operation north of Mannar resulted in the arrest of 10 more Indian fishermen, along with two additional fishing craft.
The Navy confirmed that all arrests were made during the same night as part of its continuous efforts to prevent illegal fishing activities in Sri Lankan waters.
