COLOMBO (News 1st); The Chairman of the Mathugama Pradeshiya Sabha, accused of assaulting the council’s secretary during a heated dispute, has surrendered to police. Authorities confirmed that legal proceedings are now underway.
The secretary, who is currently hospitalized, lodged a formal complaint with Matugama Police, alleging that the chairman threatened her and struck her with a heavy file weight while she was on duty.
The attack reportedly followed a verbal clash over a development project worth nearly Rs. 20 million.
Police have recorded six statements related to the incident and are continuing investigations.
