COLOMBO (News 1st): The trade union action by Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) continues for the second day today.
The action began at midnight the day before yesterday, driven by 24 demands, including resolving issues arising from the CEB’s restructuring process.
Several unions, including the CEB’s Nidahas Sevaka Sangamaya, the Podujana Progressive Workers' Union, and the Engineers’ Union, are participating in the action.
The CEB was restructured into four companies under the Sri Lanka Electricity Act, which came into effect on August 27.
Employees are scheduled to be assigned to the four relevant companies, and letters allowing them to choose their preferred company were recently issued.
