COLOMBO (News 1st); The Governor-General and Head of State of Australia encouraged Australian tourists to visit Sri Lanka, in an exclusive interview that is to be telecast on TV1 next Wednesday (13th) at 8 pm.

Her Excellency The Honourable Ms. Sam Mostyn AC, Governor-General and Head of State of the Commonwealth of Australia, made the assertion during an interview with Chevaan Daniel, Group Director of the Capital Maharaja Group, on the topic of “Leadership in a Modern and Multicultural Democracy”.

HE Ms. Sam Mostyn stated: “So the first thing I'd say is come here, travel to Sri Lanka. As active tourists, come and see for yourself modern Sri Lanka… And so I'd say come and travel.”

HE Ms. Sam Mostyn, who had visited Sri Lanka in 2005, added: “When you ask me how I feel coming back, what is not different at all is the absolute sense of welcome and warmth and the wanting of sharing of Sri Lankan culture with those that come. And so I think, come. So our tourism trade should grow, I hope.”

The Governor-General visited CMG’s Stein Studios in Ratmalana during her 5-day visit to Sri Lanka from August 6-10.

This is the first visit by a Governor-General of Australia to Sri Lanka. During her visit to Sri Lanka, the Governor-General met with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, and members of the Cabinet.

The Governor-General also spoke of the opportunities for foreign direct investment: “I think I'd encourage business people to think about what does foreign direct investment look like, once you've established that you can deliver an economy that is corruption-free. That has been a promise made by your leadership. That's very important to Australians and Australian businesses and those that want to invest. We have a lot of capital to invest in many different ways, and FDI is something that we do around the world, where we see places that take seriously the rules-based system, do not have corruption, and where money can be invested for the long term, where we prosper together.”
