COLOMBO (News 1st): The Moragolla Hydropower Project is set to be connected to Sri Lanka’s national grid by December this year, adding 30.2 megawatts of clean energy capacity, according to the Ministry of Power and Energy.

Minister of Power and Energy, Eng. Kumara Jayakody, recently inspected the ongoing construction work at the Moragolla site and the new Polpitiya transmission line under the Kotmale development corridor.

The Moragolla facility utilizes water from the Mahaweli River, diverted through a 237-meter-long and 37-meter-high dam. Water is channeled via a 3-kilometer underground tunnel to two turbines, each generating 15.1 megawatts of electricity.

During the inspection, the Minister was accompanied by engineers from the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB), local experts, and representatives from the construction companies involved. The visit included a technical review and assessment of progress.
