COLOMBO (News 1st); The U.S. Embassy in Colombo & US Ambassador to Sri Lanka Julie Chung, announced that their respective official social media accounts will not be updated regularly during the ongoing U.S. federal government shutdown, except for urgent safety and security information.

In a statement, the Embassy clarified that scheduled passport and visa services in the United States and at U.S. embassies and consulates worldwide will continue as circumstances permit, despite the lapse in appropriations.

The Embassy advised the public to visit travel.state.gov for the latest information on consular services and operating status.

The announcement follows the U.S. government shutdown triggered by a congressional deadlock over funding measures, marking the first such lapse in six years.
