COLOMBO (News 1st) - Police say that statements have been recorded from 20 students of the Sabaragamuwa University in connection with the recent death of an undergraduate.
According to the police, investigations were launched based on two complaints—one made by a university student alleging that the death may have resulted from ragging, and another filed by the deceased student’s father.
Police further stated that if it is confirmed that ragging led to the student's death, legal action will be taken against those responsible, as ragging is considered a criminal offense under Sri Lankan law.
Meanwhile, both the University Grants Commission (UGC) and Sabaragamuwa University have initiated separate inquiries into the incident.
