LG Elections: Nearly 65,000 Police Officers, 3,000 Election Observers Deployed

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Nearly 65,000 police officers are set to be deployed for duties related to the upcoming local government elections.

Police Media Spokesperson Senior Superintendent of Police Buddhika Manatunga said military personnel will also be deployed as necessary, in addition to the police presence. 

SSP Manatunga emphasized that strict legal action will be taken against anyone found violating election laws during the ongoing silence period.

The People’s Action for Free and Fair Elections (PAFFREL) says nearly 3,000 observers have been deployed across the country for the upcoming local government elections.

Executive Director Rohana Hettiarachchi stated that, in addition to the stationed observers, more than 800 mobile observers have also been assigned to monitor election-related activities.
