27 Candidates Arrested for Election Law Violations

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Police report that 27 candidates have been arrested for violating election laws since the announcement of local government elections on March 3. 

During this period, 106 political supporters were also arrested.

Authorities have taken 26 vehicles into custody related to these incidents.

So far, 237 complaints regarding election law violations have been filed with the police, including 65 criminal complaints.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission has received 170 election-related complaints in the past 24 hours alone, most of which concern election law violations.

According to the National Election Commission, a total of 2,623 complaints have been reported since the election announcement, including 13 complaints related to acts of violence.
