COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Election Commission has instructed both public and private sector institutions to grant paid leave to employees to cast their votes in the local government elections scheduled for the 6th of May.
Public sector employees can be granted leave under the provisions of the Establishments Code on Special Leave.
According to the Commission, employees whose polling stations are within 40 kilometers should be granted half-day leave.
For distances between 40 and 100 kilometers, one day of leave should be approved, while those traveling between 100 and 150 kilometers should be granted one and a half days.
If the distance exceeds 150 kilometers, a two-day leave should be approved to facilitate voting.
