Sri Lanka Army, Navy Commends Women’s Cricket Team

COLOMBO (News 1st); Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, Commander of the Army, invited the members of the Sri Lankan Women’s Cricket Team who represented the Sri Lanka Army in the Asia Cup, for a cordial meeting.



The sportswomen, Staff Sergeant D.M.S.M.K Dasanayake, Staff Sergeant W.G.A.K Kulasooriya, Staff Sergeant N.N.D Silva of 2 Sri Lanka Women’s Corps (SLAWC), and Corporal M.A.A Sanjeewani of 3 SLAWC, were recognised for their exceptional performance in the Asia Cup.



During the meeting, the Army Chief expressed his pride and congratulated the team for their remarkable achievements. 



He commended their dedication, hard work, and perseverance, which have not only earned the admiration of cricket enthusiasts but also brought honour to the Sri Lanka Army and the country.



The meeting also say the presentation of financial assistance and mementoes to encourage the team.



In addition, key players from the Sri Lanka Navy, Woman Leading Seaman Udeshika Probodhani, Woman Able Seaman Hasini Perera and Woman Ordinary Seaman Harshitha Samarawickrama, who were part of the triumphant Sri Lanka squad that clinched the Women's T20 Asia Cup 2024 title recently, met with the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera, at the Navy Headquarters. 



In recognition of their stellar achievements, the Commander of the Navy granted the players well-deserved advancements to next higher rates of Woman Petty Officer, Woman Leading Seaman and Woman Able Seaman respectively.



The advancements were awarded in recognition of their outstanding representation of the country, winning crucial games and their triumph in the Women's T20 Asia Cup 2024, which brought glory to the Navy and the entire nation.
