COLOMBO (News 1st); The Ceylon Electricity Board said the water levels in reservoirs associated with power plants have risen slightly with the rain.

The CEB said the capacity of reservoirs associated with power plants has increased to 26.8 percent, and the hydropower contribution to daily power generation has increased to 26 percent.

The capacity of the Maussakelle and Kotmale reservoirs has increased up to 41 percent.

The CEB said the capacity of the Samanala Wewa reservoir, which had dried up to 0.9 percent, has increased to 4.6 percent.

It poses a challenge to the program to close the water leakage points of the Samanala Wewa.

The CEB said plans are in place to generate power at maximum capacity.

The CEB added however that power will continue to be obtained from the Ace Matara and Ace Embilipitiya private power plants, for the stability of the electricity system in the south.
