COLOMBO (News 1st): The government has decided to deploy the army to clean paddy storage facilities across the island.

This initiative is being carried out under the guidance of the Defense Secretary and Army Commander, in line with the "Clean Sri Lanka" program.

As part of the government's plan to purchase the current season's paddy harvest, the paddy will be stored in 209 storage facilities owned by the Paddy Marketing Board.

Many of these storage facilities, along with the surrounding land, have become unusable due to long-term neglect.

The army will clean the paddy storage facilities and surrounding areas by January 27th.
