COLOMBO (News 1st); Former Secretary to the Ministry of Finance, Mahinda Siriwardana, stated that under the leadership of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, the country's economy has been managed effectively.
He further noted that the economy is currently undergoing a transitional phase.
Siriwardana made these remarks during his appearance on the Newsfirst "Ten Questions" program, following his recent retirement from the Ministry of Finance.
Dr. Mahinda Siriwardana, emphasized that Sri Lanka is currently at a critical stage where further economic progress must be carefully managed. He noted that the country has gained some breathing space through debt restructuring, and it is essential to use this opportunity wisely to implement the necessary economic reforms.
He expressed gratitude to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake for the trust placed in him and praised the President’s thoughtful and consistent policy approach. Dr. Siriwardana highlighted that the current administration is committed to changing the course of the country and managing the transition responsibly.
He also reflected on the past, expressing personal regret over the economic crisis Sri Lanka faced. He shared that he had warned his colleagues and former governors at the Central Bank about the impending collapse, and the pain of witnessing it unfold led him to confide in his wife.
