17,506 Drug-Related Analyst Reports Issued in Two Months

COLOMBO (News1st);Minister of Justice and National Integration, Harshana Nanayakkara, stated that steps have been taken to issue 17,506 Government Analyst reports related to drug offences over the past two months. 

The Minister mentioned this while participating in a discussion held at the Kuruwita Prison.

The discussion was held to explore establishing a localized inter-institutional mechanism among state bodies to manage any emergency situations within prisons.

Minister of Justice and National Integration, Harshana Nanayakkara stated that steps were taken to issue 9,061 analyst reports in August and 8,445 reports in September.

He further stated that measures have been taken to expedite Government Analyst reports and amend necessary legislation, including the Community Based Corrections Act, to reduce prison congestion.
