Dengue Cases Top 84,000, 61 Dengue Deaths Reported So Far This Year

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Minister of Public Administration, Provincial Councils, and Local Government Prof. Chandana Abeyratne announced in Puttalam that a new community-based initiative is underway to improve waste management and combat the dengue epidemic. 

Speaking on local administration challenges, he noted that special community driven waste management programs are currently being rolled out to tackle garbage disposal issues and curb the dengue outbreak. 

To address longstanding equipment shortages that have hindered these efforts and local road development, the ministry has secured funding and received its first shipment of machinery, with distribution to local authorities officially commencing on August 5th.
