COLOMBO (News 1st): Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s son, Rohitha Rajapaksa, appeared before the Colombo Central Crimes Investigation Bureau to provide a statement in connection with an ongoing investigation into a financial investment matter.

The inquiry relates to an incident involving the investment of Rs. 19 million in two institutions located in the Mirihana area.

Police stated that a complaint lodged with the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption indicates that the investments in question were made during the period between 2018 and 2021.

The complaint further points out questions over the source of the funds, specifically noting the absence of a clearly identified source of income that would justify the investments.

Following the submission of the complaint to the Bribery Commission, the matter was referred to the Inspector General of Police.

Thereafter, the Colombo Central Crimes Investigation Bureau initiated a formal investigation into the allegations.
