Tourist Police Bust Counterfeit Dollar Scam in Unawatuna

COLOMBO (News 1st): Two foreigners involved in a counterfeit dollar racket have been arrested in the Galle area.

The individuals arrested are two Tajikistan nationals aged 26 and 27.

Yesterday afternoon, they had visited a motorcycle rental place in Unawatuna, handed over 400 dollars, and exchanged it for 127,000 Sri Lankan rupees.

The police stated that a woman at the location subsequently identified the dollars as counterfeit and lodged a complaint with the Unawatuna Tourist Police.

Following an investigation, the suspects were arrested while staying at a lodging in the Galle area.

Counterfeit dollars amounting to 5,200 found in their possession were also taken into police custody.

The suspects are scheduled to be produced before court today.
