Driver Arrested Over Fatal Accident, Two Women Killed in Hanwella

Police have arrested the driver and seized the vehicle suspected to have been involved in a fatal road accident that claimed the lives of two women on the Embulgama–Panagoda Road in Hanwella.

The arrests were made following police investigations based on CCTV footage and other information received.

Police said, the two women were killed after being struck by a car while walking along the road.

The driver involved had fled the scene following the accident.

The injured women were admitted to the Nawagamuwa Hospital, where they later succumbed to their injuries.

The victims, aged 42 and 44, were residents of Ranala and Girandurukotte.

Investigations have revealed that the suspect was allegedly under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.
