Showers Above 50mm Expected: MET Dept.

COLOMBO (News 1st) - According to The Department of Meteorology sea areas off the coasts from Mullaitivu, Kankasanturai, and Mannar to Chilaw, as well as from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota, may become very rough at times.

Wind speeds in these sea areas may increase up to 60 to 65 kilometres per hour.

In other sea areas around the island, wind speeds may increase up to around 50 kilometres per hour.

The Department of Meteorology has advised the fishing and naval communities to remain extremely vigilant in this regard.

Meanwhile, heavy showers of over 50 millimetres are likely in some places in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as in the Galle and Matara districts.

The general public is also advised to take precautions against possible hazards caused by thundershowers.
