COLOMBO (News 1st); Operations at Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake are returning to normal, according to the Civil Aviation Authority, following disruptions caused by heavy rainfall earlier today.
The authority stated that seven aircraft scheduled to land at Katunayake this (22) morning were diverted to other airports due to adverse weather conditions. The decision was taken as a precautionary measure in response to the intense rain that affected visibility and landing conditions.
Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority, Captain Daminda Rambukwella, said that five of the diverted aircraft were rerouted to Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport. The remaining two flights were directed to airports in India, specifically Madurai and Cochin.
The Civil Aviation Authority further confirmed that conditions at Katunayake have since improved, and airport operations are returning to normal.
