COLOMBO (News 1st); The Department of Motor Traffic (DMT) has issued a notice urging vehicle owners to collect their number plates issued in 2023 and 2024 before the end of June 2026.

According to the department, almost 100,000 number plates that were printed following requests from vehicle owners during 2023 and 2024 remain uncollected and are currently stored at its premises. The DMT stated that nearly a large volume of such number plates has accumulated at its main office in Narahenpita as well as at district offices across the country.

The department requested all vehicle owners who have not yet collected their number plates to do so on or before June 30, 2026.

Owners are advised to visit the DMT head office in Narahenpita to collect plates issued through that office, while those processed at district level should be collected from the respective district offices.

The DMT has called on the public to act promptly and avoid delays in collecting the number plates.

For further information, the department stated that inquiries can be made through its official hotline 011 2 033 333, with its Number Plate Division available to assist vehicle owners seeking clarification.
