COLOMBO (News 1st): Nine employees of a private bank, including six male officers and three female officers, have been arrested in Kandy by the Kandy Special Crimes Investigation Unit.
Police stated that the suspects were arrested over allegations of forging loan application forms and loan agreements related to loans obtained from a branch of the private bank, located on Dalada Veediya, Kandy, between 2012 and 2019.
The investigations were launched following a complaint received by the Special Crimes Investigation Unit in Kandy in 2022.
Accordingly, six bank officers and three female officers attached to the relevant bank were arrested on charges of preparing forged documents and aiding and abetting the offences.
The suspects, aged between 32 and 58, are residents of Kandy, Peradeniya, Katugastota, Pussellawa, Heerassagala, Kurunegala, Pilimathalawa, Halloluwa, and Gurudeniya.
Each suspect were granted bail on a personal bond of Rs. 500,000 after being produced before the Kandy Magistrate’s Court.
The case is scheduled to be recalled on September 23.
