COLOMBO (News 1st); Fuel supplies from the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) will reach Lanka IOC (LIOC) following high-level diplomatic engagements between India and Sri Lanka aimed at addressing fuel supply concerns.
According to informed sources, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake (AKD) held a telephone conversation with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the 24th, during which the fuel supply situation and the conflict in the middle east was discussed. The call followed an earlier engagement, in which the Foreign Ministers of Sri Lanka and India had also held discussions on the matter a day earlier.
These diplomatic interventions led to a positive outcome, with a previously placed order by Lanka IOC reportedly being cancelled, and subsequent steps taken to ensure immediate fuel supplies to Sri Lanka.
As a result of the coordinated efforts and direct intervention by both governments, one shipment from IOC already reaching Sri Lankan waters.
The shipment of 38,000 metric tonnes, comprises 20,000 metric tonnes of diesel and 18,000 metric tonnes of petrol. The supplies are being shipped from IOC to Lanka IOC.
