COLOMBO (News 1st); Colombo Dockyard PLC has successfully delivered the 10th and final vessel in the Misje Eco Bulker series, marking a significant milestone in Sri Lanka’s shipbuilding industry and the company’s international project portfolio.

The official delivery protocols were exchanged between Thimira S. Godakumbura, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Colombo Dockyard PLC, and Roald Misje, Owner of Misje Eco Bulk AS, Norway.

The vessel, christened “Misje Kandy” in tribute to Sri Lanka’s last monarchy capital, was formally handed over during a ceremony attended by several dignitaries.

Among those present were Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Santosh Jha, as well as Sri Lankan Ministers and Deputy Ministers representing the Ports and Civil Aviation sector.

Speaking at the event, Indian High Commissioner Santosh Jha reflected on Colombo Dockyard’s recent progress, describing the past year as one of determination and strategic renewal.

“The journey of Colombo Dockyard in the last year has been one of determination and a strategic renewal. Challenges were met with resolve and opportunities were embraced with clarity of purpose,” he said. “The result is what we witnessed today, an enterprise committed to recovery and growth, confident in its potential and capable of competing on the global stage.” He added that the partnership supporting the project had already produced tangible results and underscored a broader shift within the maritime industry.

“The delivery of this eco-bulk carrier also underpins an important shift in the maritime industry towards sustainability and environmental responsibility,” the High Commissioner noted.

Designed by Wärtsilä Ship Design Norway and built by Colombo Dockyard’s skilled in-house team, the Misje Eco Bulker features an advanced Energy Storage Battery System enabling hybrid propulsion.

The design combines high performance with strong environmental credentials, reflecting evolving trends in sustainable shipping.

The delivery of Misje Kandy concludes a project that began in March 2020, during a period of significant global disruption.
