COLOMBO (News 1st); As part of the Gammadda initiative, a newly constructed water purification system at Sirisumana Vidyalaya in Negampaha, Negama village, within the Galnewa Divisional Secretariat Division of the Anuradhapura District, was handed over to students today (27), following a lapse in Gammadda community projects.

The school accommodates around 165 students from Grade 1 to Grade 11, while more than 170 families reside in the surrounding Negampaha village.

For decades, both the school and the wider community faced severe difficulties in accessing clean drinking water. This long-standing issue has now been addressed through the establishment of the new purification system, bringing much-needed relief to students and residents alike.

The foundation stone for the project was laid on the birth anniversary of the late R. Rajamahendran, the founder of Gammadda and former Chairman of the Capital Maharaja Group.

Implemented with the technical support of the Sri Lanka Navy and funded through the Gammadda Fund, the project marks a significant step towards improving the quality of life in the village, while also signalling the revival of Gammadda’s community-driven initiatives.
