COLOMBO (News 1st); Russia has agreed to supply fuel to Sri Lanka and is ready to immediately provide refined petroleum products, following successful talks between Sri Lankan authorities and a visiting Russian delegation, the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) said.
CPC Managing Director Mayur Nettikumarage said discussions with the Russian delegation, led by Deputy Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation R. A. Marshavin and Russia’s Ambassador to Sri Lanka L. S. Dzhagaryan, concluded positively.
During meetings with the CPC and the Ministry of Energy, the Russian side confirmed that Russia is prepared to deliver fuel to Sri Lanka.
He added that Sri Lanka aims to enter into a long‑term agreement with Russia to secure stable fuel supplies.
Nettikumarage said further discussions on the terms and conditions of the proposed arrangement are scheduled to continue today and tomorrow.
Meanwhile, the CPC said Sri Lanka has sufficient fuel stocks to meet domestic requirements until May.
Nettikumarage confirmed that a vessel carrying 35,500 metric tons of diesel arrived in the country yesterday (24) and that unloading operations are currently underway.
He further said that two additional fuel shipments are expected to arrive in Sri Lanka within this month.
One vessel will carry 30,000 metric tons of Octane 92 petrol and 5,000 metric tons of Octane 95 petrol. The second vessel is scheduled to deliver 8,000 metric tons of aviation fuel along with 32,000 metric tons of diesel.
