Rs. 100,000 Contract Killing: Gunman Links Plot to 'Karandeniya Sudda'

COLOMBO (News 1st); A key suspect arrested over the Akuregoda double murder has revealed that he carried out the shooting for a payment of Rs. 100,000, according to investigators.

The disclosure was made during questioning, where the gunman stated that the payment had been given by an organized criminal known as “Karandeniya Sudda.”

Investigators also said the suspect claimed Karandeniya Sudda had previously provided Rs. 150,000 to fund a celebratory event for the suspect’s niece.

The arrested gunman is currently being questioned under a 72-hour detention order, police confirmed. 

They added that steps are being taken to obtain a 90-day detention order for further investigations.

According to investigators, the suspect is a close associate of Karandeniya Sudda and had previously been imprisoned over a robbery.

They further revealed that he was released on bail through the intervention of Karandeniya Sudda.

Attorney-at-Law Buddhika Mallawarachchi and his wife were shot dead in Talangama, Akuregoda, on the afternoon of the 13th.
