Minister Ananda Wijepala Assures Parliament: No Threat to National Security

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Minister of Public Security Ananda Wijepala emphasized that there is no threat to national security,. 

He made this statement while providing a detailed explanation regarding the recent double murder in Akuregoda, during today's parliamentary session. 

Minister noted that certain parties are attempting to spread rumors that the safety of the general public is under threat. 

However, the Minister emphasized that the government does not underestimate the loss of any life and remains duty-bound to protect every citizen in the country.

"As a government, we have taken all necessary measures to ensure the protection of our citizens," the Minister stated.

Specifically, Minister Wijepala highlighted that a significant number of weapons are currently circulating within society, many of which have not yet been handed over to the authorities. 

Furthermore, cases have been reported where weapons were allegedly leaked to criminal networks by members of the security forces.

The Minister emphasized that rigorous investigations into these cases are currently underway to ensure accountability and public safety.
