COLOMBO (News 1st); The Colombo High Court today ordered that the case filed against Yoshitha Rajapaksa, son of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, and his grandmother Daisy Forrest under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act be taken up again on April 24.

The case was called before High Court Judge Rashmi Singappuli.

During the hearing, Senior State Counsel Oswald Perera informed the court that the expert medical report requested from the Colombo Judicial Medical Officer, regarding whether the second accused is in a mental condition fit to face trial, has not yet been received.

Therefore, the Senior State Counsel requested the court to grant a new date to proceed with the case until the relevant medical report is submitted.

After considering the submissions, the judge ordered that the case be recalled on April 24.

The indictment alleges that between March 31, 2009, and December 12, 2013, the accused committed offences under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act by depositing a sum exceeding Rs. 59 million, the source of which they were unable to satisfactorily explain, into three fixed deposit accounts in private banks.

The Attorney General has filed the case with three charges against the accused.
