COLOMBO (News 1st); The Supreme Court today announced that it has completed hearings on the fundamental rights petitions filed against the proposed abolition of parliamentary pension benefits and will now transmit its confidential determination to the Speaker of Parliament.
The move marks a significant step in the legal and political debate that erupted after the government recently presented the Parliamentary Pensions Abolition Bill to the House.
The petitions were filed by a group of retired Members of Parliament, who challenged the proposed law.
