Second Woman Arrested Over Fatal Illegal Liquor

COLOMBO (News1st): Police have arrested another suspect in connection with the tragic deaths of five individuals in Wennappuwa after consuming illegally brewed liquor.

The latest arrest involves a 44-year-old woman from Dankotuwa South Gonuwila, who allegedly distributed the illicit alcohol supplied by the main producer—a 64-year-old woman already in custody.

Investigations revealed that the arrested woman had sold the liquor that led to the fatalities.

Authorities confirmed that post-mortem examinations of the five victims are scheduled for today. Meanwhile, eight others who consumed the same liquor are currently receiving treatment at the Negombo General Hospital.
