Special Program Launched for Disaster-affected Children

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Ministry of Women and Child Affairs says a special programme is being implemented to ensure the safety of children affected by the disaster. 

The ministry stated that more than 100,000 children have been affected, with the highest number reported from the Puttalam district, where 43,000 children have been impacted.

According to the ministry, 14,077 children in the Colombo district and 8,403 children in the Kurunegala district have also been affected. 

Deputy Minister of Women and Child Affairs Namal Sudarshana said that a special discussion will be held with the International Children’s Fund on December 11 and 12 to prepare a programme for affected children. 

Following these discussions, a joint programme will be developed to strengthen the protection of children affected by the disaster.
