COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Minister of Housing, Construction and Water Supply, Dr. Susil Ranasinghe, said that alternative lands have already been identified for the construction of new houses in safer locations for people living in high-risk areas.
He stated that several lands have already been donated for the purpose of building new houses.
Information on fully and partially damaged houses in high-risk areas has already been collected, and further details are being gathered by Grama Niladhari officers and technical officers of the Housing Authority.
The Minister added that steps will be taken to provide new houses to families living in high-risk areas, even if their houses are only partially damaged.
Meanwhile, the government will continue to provide relief to people affected by the disaster.
The relief programme is being implemented to cover families, individuals, businesses, and livelihoods affected by the disaster.
Accordingly, the provision of Rs. 25,000 for cleaning houses is already being implemented through the Grama Niladhari officers.
