COLOMBO (News 1st): Sri Lanka Police have launched investigations into complaints received via the WhatsApp number introduced by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to report on illegal drugs and organized crime.

According to police, these complaints are being forwarded to the relevant police stations for further inquiries and follow-up action.

Over 8,000 complaints have been received through the dedicated WhatsApp number (071–8598888), which was introduced by IGP Attorney-at-law Priyantha Weerasuriya, to allow the public to report information related to illegal drugs, organized crime, and other issues.

However, police further noted that some of the messages received are unrelated to their responsibilities.

Therefore, the public is requested to submit only police-relevant complaints through this number to ensure effective response and investigation.
