Sri Lanka’s Foreign Debt at Rs.19.6 Trillion

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Committee on Public Finance chaired by MP Dr. Harsha de Silva, revealed that Sri Lanka has accumulated foreign debt amounting to USD 37 billion. 

Officials from the Public Debt Management Office, summoned before the committee, revealed this following a question posed by the Chairman of COPF MP Dr. Harsha De Silva. 

It was revealed that Sri Lanka’s foreign debt stands at Rs. 19.6 trillion.

Although the chairman inquired about the loan installments due for payment this year, the officials did not possess the relevant statistical data.

The chairman of the Finance Committee expressed his displeasure over the matter.
