664 Arrested in Island-Wide Crime Crackdown

COLOMBO (News 1st): Another 664 suspects were arrested yesterday as part of the ongoing island-wide crime and drug prevention operation.

Police said that under the operation, a total of 28,778 people were tested yesterday. 

Among those arrested were seven individuals directly linked to crimes, 254 people with day warrants, and 163 with open warrants. 

Police added that 42 drunk drivers and 14 reckless drivers were also taken into custody yesterday.

In total, 3,895 people were arrested for other traffic related offenses.

The operation is being conducted nationwide under the directives of the Inspector General of Police.
