COLOMBO (News 1st); Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim lauded China's global initiatives, highlighting their importance in a time when multilateralism faces significant challenges.

He noted that while some nations abandon shared responsibility and question long-standing commitments, China's approach offers renewed hope by looking outward and promoting renewal rather than rivalry.

Prime Minister Ibrahim criticized the current global trend of economic tribalism, where market access is weaponized, and multilateral agreements for shared growth are disrupted by arbitrary decisions. He emphasized that this is not a genuine reckoning with globalization's imperfections but a retreat into protectionism.

Quoting a Chinese proverb, which means "There is nothing difficult in the world, only those who lack the will," Ibrahim underscored China's role as a rational, strong, and reliable partner amid global turbulence. He affirmed Malaysia's unwavering and principled friendship with China, guided by historical wisdom and future promise.

Malaysia's foreign policy, according to Ibrahim, is driven by a clear-eyed vision of its interests, favoring cooperation over confrontation, respect over rivalry, and dialogue as a cornerstone of lasting peace and prosperity.
