COLOMBO(News 1st); A special police team is scheduled to leave for Indonesia today to bring back arrested organized criminals, including Kehelbaddara Padme, to Sri Lanka.
The team, working with Sri Lankan police officers already in Indonesia and with the help of Indonesian security forces, will return with Kehelbaddara Padme and his group under tight security.
Police said they plan to bring them back tomorrow afternoon.
Meanwhile, the wife and child of organized criminal Backhoe Saman, who was also arrested in Indonesia, arrived in Sri Lanka yesterday afternoon. Police said they were taken into the custody of the Criminal Investigation Department.
Police have also launched an investigation into assets illegally acquired by Kehelbaddara Padme and his group. They revealed that he had purchased several movable and immovable properties in Sri Lanka with illegal funds. Police also received information about properties belonging to Commando Salintha.
Two days ago, Indonesian police, together with Sri Lankan police and Interpol, arrested six people, including the leaders of three major organized crime gangs led by Kehelbaddara Padme.
The arrested gang leaders include Commando Salintha, Backhoe Saman, and Panadura Nilanga. Among those arrested were also Backhoe Saman’s wife and child.
