COLOMBO (News 1st) - According to the MET Department, heat index, the temperature felt on human body is expected to increase up to ‘Caution level’ at some places in Northern, North-central, North-western, Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Trincomalee, Batticaloa, Colombo and Gampaha districts.
The Department urged the public to take necessary precautions as high temperatures persist across several areas. People working at job sites are advised to stay hydrated and take frequent breaks in the shade.
Those indoors should check on the elderly and the sick to ensure their well-being.
The department advised to not leave children unattended in vehicles.
Outdoor activities should be limited, especially during peak heat hours, and people are encouraged to stay in the shade and drink plenty of water.
Wearing lightweight, white or light-colored clothing is also recommended.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Central and Uva provinces and in Kurunegala district after 2.00 p.m.
Fairly heavy showers above 50 mm can be expected at some places in Sabaragamuwa and Southern provinces.
Misty conditions can be expected at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Uva provinces and in Galle, Matara and Kurunegala districts during the morning.
