COLOMBO (News 1st) – The Eelam People's Democratic Party (EPDP) has announced its intention to contest the upcoming local government elections independently.
This announcement was made during a press conference held in Jaffna today.
Srikanth Panneerselvam, the Media Secretary of the EPDP, stated, "No party has officially approached us for discussions regarding the upcoming local government elections. Our party has always presented its own programs and policies and has contested under our symbol, the veena. Therefore, we are preparing to contest the upcoming local government elections independently."
He further mentioned that while some members of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) have approached them, the EPDP will base its decisions on the expectations and decisions of the people, as well as the conditions in the respective areas.
"We have activists in Puttalam and Colombo, and considering the situation in those areas, the party will discuss and make the best decisions based on the requests of the people there," Panneerselvam added.
